What are Menstrual Problems?

Menstruation is a normal monthly vaginal bleeding in women. Once the girl attains puberty, the female reproductive system becomes active and menstruation begins. This phase is known as Menarche. Periods usually start between age 11 and 14 and continue until menopause at about age 51.

Every month the uterus prepares for pregnancy, and if it is not achieved, the uterine lining sheds off in the form of vaginal bleeding. This bleeding should normally be painless, adequate flow, for 3 to 5 days, should start at a regular interval every month, and stop on its own. Any abnormality in colour, quantity, consistency and duration of menstrual flow signifies imbalance in regulation of the artava vaha srotas i.e. female reproductive system.

These abnormalities may represent as Heavy or scanty menstrual bleeding, painful bleeding, irregular menstrual cycle etc.
